RADIO EURO-MERNET
Radio Euro-Mernet was launched by the Brighton-based charity Euro-Mediterranean Resources Network (Euro-Mernet) in autumn 2010.
The motto of the radio show series summarises its mission statement: being “the global voice of the local communities and the local voice of the global communities.”
Radio Euro-Mernet main show in English is on air every Thursday from 2pm to 4pm and it is hosted by our sister organisation, Brighton and Hove Community Radio (BHCR). The radio station is at the Brighthelm Centre, North Road, Brighton, BN1 1YD (just behind the Community Base building on Queens Road).
Content of the radio shows include dedicated regular sections on: cultural heritage, community safety, health and wellbeing, personal and professional development, nonviolence and peaceful conflict resolution, poetry, music, arts, history, local community initiatives, local and regional news and current affairs, and events listing.
Radio Euro-Mernet uses the power of the wealth of the cultural heritage of the diverse communities across Brighton and Hove and across the world in highlighting community dialogue, networking, solidarity and community empowerment. Quoting the examples of the arts, culture, music, literature and history of the communities and civilisations during the radio shows helps to enlighten the uninformed individuals and further motivate and support the communities in adding their voices into the free speech platform provided by the radio show.
Radio Euro-Mernet initially aired shows in English only in 2010. But the following year it also began airing the multilingual versions of the show, initially in Arabic, French, Italian, Spanish and Turkish. Radio Euro-Mernet is planning to start a training programme in spring 2020 for a further team of volunteers with bilingual skills in order to add more languages into its radio show series in future. The new language versions of the show are expected to include a handful more of the popular community languages in Brighton and Hove, initially in Albanian, Bengali, Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, Farsi, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Japanese, Kurdish, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovakian, and Tamil.
